In the early hours of Wednesday 27th February 2019, the presidential election results were announced and a winner declared. Out of 82,344,107 total registered voters, 29,364,209 were accredited which is a voter turnout of 35.66% (using total votes cast gives 34.7%) which is over 11% less than the voter turnout for the 2015 Presidential Election (47.01%). The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Muhammadu Buhari won with 15,191,847 votes while the runner-up, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 11,262,978 votes. There were 27,324,583 valid votes while 1,289,607 votes were rejected.

However since the conduct of the election, there have been some issues raised in some sections of the public relating to the results and conduct of the election. has noted these concerns and employed an analytical approach to determine if they have a sound basis or not.

The aim of preparing the ‘Analysis of the 2019 Nigerian Presidential Election’ document is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the 2019 Presidential Election Results with a view to understanding the level of credibility of the exercise.

It is expected that this document will significantly increase the quality of discussions relating to the 2019 Nigerian Presidential election.
